Heritage Walk at Begumpur Village
Dil Dilli December
When the winter sun casts it’s warm glow on a hearty December afternoon, it calls for a visit to the village of Begumpur that conceals the ruins of a once thriving medieval city.
In the heart of a forgotten empire lies Jahapanah, or the
“Refuge of the World,” a city built on dreams and ruined by ambition. It was established by Muhammad bin Tughlaq as the fourth significant capital in Delhi’s long and tumultuous history. Tughlaq’s rule, marked by radical decisions, is still reflected in the ruins scattered across this area. Even today, the distant echoes of Ibn Battuta’s travels resound through the desolate corridors and forgotten corners of this once-mighty city. Walking through these ancient ruins reminds us that even in destruction there are tales of endurance and memory.
