In the aftermath of Emperor Aurangzeb’s death, Delhi’s fate lay in the hands of weak rulers embroiled in constant skirmishes. With no strong leader to hold the empire together, dusk set on the Mughal Empire. This vacuum led to many foreign invasions which saw 18th century Delhi covered in an eclipse of turmoil. Yet, the city’s culture remained vibrant. Delhi’s market thrived with the culture of kahwa khana where mushairas kept the literary spirit alive even as Delhi struggled with its fading glory.
