Spring renders a different character to Mehrauli – it’s landscape bursting into colours with blooming trees and seasonal flowers. The Mughals once made this place their summer retreat to escape the scorching heat of north Delhi. For them, Mehrauli was not just a refuge but a celebration of nature, poetry, and love. The once-majestic, now decrepit, Zafar Mahal stands here – the last monumental structure built as a summer palace during the fading years of the Mughal era. Today, it remains a poignant symbol of Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar’s unfulfilled wish to have it as his final resting place.
If time permits, we will visit the Mehrauli village and Dargah Qutub Sahib at the end of the walk.
